Snorkelling, one of the many forms of underwater exploration, is accessible to everyone! It defines the act of swimming at surface water to admire the beauty of the seabed in shallow waters. Snorkelling requires very little equipment, but you do need to know where the most accessible and suitable places are. That's where I can help!
Where to snorkel in Calvi?
The must-see : Calvi Beach
If you're staying in Calvi, its large sandy beach lined with pine trees is definitely a must-see! Getting in the water is very easy, and the slope of sand very gentle, ideal for a smooth immersion. To see the fish, head along the dykes that succeed each other. This is where you'll find the small ones! Dykes are indeed home to juvenile fish which you'll see further out at sea: sars, saupes, castagnoles, gobies, girelles and crabs. But the best thing to do is to swim between the dykes, leaving a space of around 2 metres under your fins, to catch a glimpse of small stingrays and a few soles (with a little patience!).

Rocks for more fish : the tip of Saint François
The shore behind the citadel is a little less accessible but well worth the trip. You'll have to climb a few rocks to get there. Another option can be the small Roncu cove, where it's easier to get in the water. I would argue that this remains the best tradeoff between accessibility and marine life, as the water gets very deep very quickly: schools of saupas, sars, a few well-hidden octopuses and the famous castagnoles.
Make sure you wear special shoes to climb back out without slipping!
If you continue a little further along the path, "le sentier des douaniers", you'll also witness the beautiful sunsets over the bay!

The wild coast : the tip of Spanu
You'll need a car to access this lovely spot. This path runs along the sea and is ideal for putting on your fins. You can combine your stroll with a swim, while enjoying the stunning view of the Calvi's bay and its citadel. The depth will slowly builds up, with rocks and fields of posidonia alternating on the seabed. A word of advice: stay until the end of the day to admire the sunset.

Last but not least: The Revellata tip and the Sec des belges
Calvi's most beautiful spot, both for its landscape and marine life. This is where the Revellata reserve starts and where fish are most abundant.
Accessible only by boat, the trip takes around 15 minutes, which is enough time to admire the citadel from the sea and the wild coastline going as far as the Revellata peninsula. We offer this trip every day! You can go snorkelling on your own or with an instructor. We'll provide all the equipment and give you all the safety information you need. We'll be delighted to share our knowledge of the flora and fauna visible there! Don't hesitate to contact us for more information, or to book, click here.

What equipment?
Be careful to take precautions. If you don't feel comfortable swimming, it's important not to go alone and to know your limits. You can bring a board or buoy to help you float and rest.
Fins: use them to move around in the water.
Mask: to see underwater. Try it on before you use it. It should fit over your face without the strap. Don't make it too tight - it's useless. Remember to use an anti-fog product to make the most of the view.
Snorkel: you can attach it to the mask using a special clip, or slip it directly under the mask strap.
Wetsuit: ideal for staying a long time in the water and floating. Even if the water is warm, you'll cool down quickly.
What do we see?
The Bay of Calvi is brimming with life. There are fish, of course, but also fauna attached to the rocks and flora that we generally know very little about.
Here are a few photos to give you an idea:
We're lucky enough to have particularly clear and turquoise water in Corsica. If you're passing through Calvi, don't forget to take a look at what's going on underwater in addition to discovering the land's beauty.
